Felix Deufel is a sound artist and ecologist focusing on spatial sound, spatial hearing, and the role of soundscapes in society and the environment.

Through field research and expeditions, he explores environmental issues and the human impact on ecosystems in the Anthropocene. His work has taken him to the Himalayas, tropical rainforests, the Greenland ice sheet, and the Arctic underwater world, where he investigates the acoustic character of these unique landscapes.

Deufel’s artistic output includes spatial installations, compositions, performances, and field research. Collaboration is central to his practice, spanning music, dance, performance, and film, with sound as the emotional and narrative core.

He is the founder of Not a Number Studio, specialising in 3D audio production and creative tool development. In 2020, he also established ZiMMT (Center for Immersive Media Art, Music and Technology) in Leipzig—a hub for immersive audio, interdisciplinary exchange, and public engagement.

Deufel regularly leads workshops at institutes, universities, and festivals worldwide, sharing his expertise in field recording and spatial audio.

In his artist talk, Felix Deufel will offer insight into his artistic work. Visit his website for more information.
