Lecture by Prof. Ben Engel, Biozentrum, University of Basel

Plants and microscopic algae use the sun's light to produce oxygen, while removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and producing food. This has shaped the history of life on Earth and created a home for humans to live. Ben Engel uses advanced electron microscopes to explore the tiny protein machines that perform photosynthesis inside algae cells. He explains how the carbon cycle connects all life on our planet, and how the imbalance of this cycle is causing our global climate to change.
