The Security Policy Forum St. Gallen (SPF) invites you to an engaging talk and interactive discussion with Maelle L’Homme, a Researcher at Médecins Sans Frontières’s Research Unit on Humanitarian Stakes and Practices (UREPH) in Geneva, as part of the 2025 Security Days.
What does it mean to provide medical care in an active war zone? What happens when hospitals lose their protection under International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and medical staff come under fire? Caught between violence and the total collapse of local health infrastructure, it is always civilians who suffer the most in armed conflicts.
Yet even in the most desperate circumstances, there are individuals and organizations that continue to fight for human dignity. One of them is the international NGO Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
Maelle L’Homme will provide firsthand insights into the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza – from the perspective of those trying to deliver life-saving medical assistance in one of the most complex and volatile conflict zones in the world.
