Historical Self-Accompaniment - A Practical Workshop

Have you ever wondered how people in antiquity, the Renaissance, and the Baroque periods all accompanied themselves while singing? Have you ever been curious about how your body could be more involved in your singing and musical practice? Are you excited about the thought of singing and making music with others?

Then SING - PLAY is a workshop for you! Led by Anna Freer, an Australian violinist and singer, this will be an immersive and collaborative experience. Together we will go through a short history of self-accompaniment, learn chants, folk songs and rounds to sing together, and work together to create our own accompaniments for them.
This workshop is open to ALL, whether you have any previous experience with playing, singing, and music in general - or not! If you are an instrumentalist, please bring your instrument - if not, then you get to use the most intrinsic instrument of all (your body) to accompany yourself with body percussion.

This workshop is presented in collaboration with Raum236, Theresia Orchestra, and is co-funded by the European Union.
